Mick Stones Receives Westmeath GAA NY Lifetime Achievement Award
Mick Stones was recently honored with the Westmeath GAA NY Lifetime Achievement Award from the Westmeath Hurling and Football Club New York. The award ceremony took place at the annual Dinner Dance held at Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, NY. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the presentation of the award to Mick Stones, a truly deserving recipient who has dedicated his life to the sport of Gaelic football. Mick's passion for the game and his commitment to the Westmeath GAA has been an inspiration to many, and it was an honor to witness him being recognized for his contributions.
The evening was filled with laughter, good food, and great company, and it was a fitting celebration of the incredible achievements of everyone involved with the Westmeath GAA. Mick's love for the GAA began during his time at Kilbeggan boys' national school, where he played for the school teams and later for Kilbeggan Shamrocks, representing Kilbeggan at all levels from underage to senior. He also played Hurling for Castletown and represented Westmeath at underage levels.
Mick has been involved in the Westmeath GAA NY club in many capacities over the years, including management, fundraisers, and serving on the board. Mick's accomplishments include leading Westmeath (Football) to a League Title in 2012, reforming the Hurling Club in 2015, winning 2 out of 3 contested Junior Hurling Finals in 2019, and completing a double in 2021 by winning the Intermediate Football Championships. He was instrumental in setting up the current junior football team in 2018.
Mick's commitment to the GAA extends beyond his playing and managing. As a partner in MJS Building and Development, he sponsors Westmeath underage hurling and football teams back home in Ireland, as well as sponsoring the underage leagues. MJS also sponsors the Westmeath junior team in New York. Mick's lovely wife, Deirdre, and their two sons, Sean and Adam, and daughter Devin have been avid supporters of the Westmeath teams over the years.
Mick's success is a testament to his work ethic, commitment, and passion for family, sport, and community. He is grateful to the Westmeath club and all the officers for their support and will always be on hand to help anyone that needs it.
